Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season rolls on and the action will conclude with a Monday night showdown featuring the Washington Commanders visiting the Kansas City Chiefs at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN.
The Chiefs have shaken off the early-season cobwebs and are rolling, exemplified by their 31-0 shutout victory over the Raiders last Sunday. The offense is clicking with their receiver room finally at full strength and an unexpected weapon has emerged out of the backfield in rookie running back Brashard Smith.
Below, we’ll go over Smith’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 8.
Fantasy Football analysis: Chiefs RB Brashard Smith
Smith got plenty of touches in last week’s victory over the Raiders, taking 14 carries for 39 rushing yards on the ground and hauling in five targets for 42 receiving yards through the air. The seventh-rounder had gotten just a smattering of touches prior to last Sunday and got to get in on the action with Kareem Hunt exiting the game with an ankle injury.
Head coach Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes praised Smith’s progress this week and there’s a chance that we could be seeing more of him this week. He was on the field for 35% of the offensive snaps last week and if Hunt were to be declared inactive for the contest, then Smith would easily slide right into the RB2 role behind Isiah Pacheco.

Sit. It’s a bit too early to start considering Smith for a start. I’d like to see more out of the rookie before even adding him off the waiver wire, let alone handing him the keys as a starter. However, he is someone to definitely keep tabs on in the coming weeks. You never know who could become a breakout player in KC’s offense.
