Dad Goes Viral for Making This One Mistake at Bathtime with His Baby Daughter (Exclusive)

Guoda Baliutyté was surprised when she walked in to discover her daughter sitting in the bath with both her socks on.

In a video shared to her TikTok, the mom captured a six-second clip of her daughter sitting in the bath and playing with a whale bath toy. Although her daughter’s face wasn’t pictured, Guoda positioned the camera to see that her baby girl was wearing her light pink socks in the water.

“Just walked in on my one year old having a bath with socks on ’cause dad didn’t see them,’ ” she jokingly wrote over the clip.

Now, Guoda explains to PEOPLE that although she was helping her husband get their daughter ready for bed, she stepped away and let her husband take the lead when it came time for the bath.

“We were getting ready for our daughter’s bath as any other day. We took all her clothes off, but left the socks on cause she was moving a lot and did not want to stay in one place,” remembers Guoda. “I was putting some toys away, so my husband started bath time without me this time.”

She says they always do bath time together as a family and while their daughter plays, she and her husband talk about how their day went.

“I walked into the bathroom when I heard my husband jokingly say to our daughter, ‘Why are you having a bath with your socks on?’ ” explains Guoda. “I did think that he had forgotten, but knowing my husband — a jokester and a super funny guy who loves making silly jokes — I just smiled and started recording a video right away, knowing this would be remembered as a core memory for us all.”

“I asked my husband, ‘Did you honestly forget, or were you just trying to be funny?’ And he said that he was just trying to be funny,” she continues. “In his defense, those socks were light pink before they got wet, so even if he didn’t notice them, I don’t blame him!”

Guoda says her daughter wasn’t bothered by being in the bath with socks on and when they took them off, she just put them right back on. But they were surprised at how many people loved their silly video.

“The video reached a lot of people — we did not expect that!” she says. “Some viewers laughed and shared their own silly stories, which have been so fun to read.”

“Unfortunately, it also triggered some negative reactions. A few people said it was lazy or typical ‘ men’s’ behavior. There were people fighting in the comments,” explains Guoda. “Some even called it ‘weaponized incompetence.’ But this video was never meant to portray dads in a negative way.”

“Yes, maybe we moms pay more attention to details, but we all make mistakes — no one is perfect! My husband is not a social media person at all so he was pretty shocked at how some people can get so angry at a silly video like this. For us as a family, this will always stay a special core memory.”
