After a wild Week 9 full of upsets, Week 10 settled things back down for northeast Georgia area teams expected to make late playoff runs.

Buford, Gainesville, Jackson County, and North Hall all clinched playoff spots this past week. They joined Habersham Central, Flowery Branch, Jefferson, and Rabun County, who all have clinched playoff spots as well.

Cherokee Bluff and Lumpkin County can clinch postseason berths with wins this week.

With that, here is a Region Rundown of what happened last week and where things stand in the AccessWDUN and Friday Game Night coverage area heading into Week 11.

REGION 8-6A: If it wasn’t already, Buford and Mill Creek made it official last week.

The Wolves (8-0, 4-0 Region 8-6A) and Hawks (7-2, 5-0 Region 8-6A) have clinched the top two spots and will play for the region title on Halloween. Buford demolished Central Gwinnett 75-0 while Mill Creek rolled past Discovery, 51-6. Mill Creek is off this week while Buford plays host to Mountain View.

Dacula (4-4, 2-2 Region 8-6A) and Collins Hill (4-4, 2-2 Region 8-6A) are tied for third and will play each other this week at Fahring Field in Lawrenceville. Central Gwinnett  (3-4, 1-3 Region 8-6A) is still alive in fifth but needs a Collins Hill win over Dacula to set up a showdown with the Falcons in the season finale for a shot at fourth.

REGION 6-6A: North Forsyth (4-4, 2-3 Region 6-6A) almost staged a second consecutive upset, leading West Forsyth (7-1, 5-0 Region 6-6A) late in the fourth quarter. But the Wolverines rallied for a 35-28 win to clinch a playoff spot.

Lambert (5-3, 4-1 Region 6-6A) routed Forsyth Central 38-10 to also clinch a playoff spot. The Longhorns are tied with Denmark (5-3, 4-1 Region 6-6A) who beat South Forsyth 36-15 and those two will meet in Suwanee this week for second place.

North Atlanta (4-4, 3-2 Region 6-6A) is fourth, a game ahead of North Forsyth and will travel to West Forsyth this week. The Warriors, who are the defending region champs, can clinch a playoff spot with a win or a North Forsyth loss.

However, the Raiders, who beat North Atlanta 10-6 two weeks ago, are still alive. They can steal the No. 4 spot by winning their final two games over Alpharetta and Forsyth Central AND getting a West Forsyth win over the Warriors.

REGION 8-5A: With Jackson County’s 57-13 demolition of Winder-Barrow last week, the Panthers made it official. They and Habersham Central (6-2, 4-0 Region 8-5A) have clinched the top two spots and will meet in a season-ending showdown in Hoschton for the region title.

Clarke Central (3-5, 2-2 Region 8-5A) and Winder-Barrow (4-5, 3-2 Region 8-5A) look headed for a third-place showdown to close out the season on Halloween. However, Alcovy (1-7, 1-3 Region 8-5A) is still alive after snapping a 9-game losing streak with a 27-21 win over Apalachee (2-7, 1-4 Region 8-5A). The Tigers can sneak into the fourth spot with a win over Clarke Central this week.

REGION 7-5A: Gainesville and Roswell clinched playoff spots last week with blowout wins over Chattahoochee and Lanier, respectively. The Red Elephants (8-1, 5-0 Region 7-5A) can clinch the region title outright with a win over the Hornets (7-1, 4-0 Region 7-5A) this week at City Park.

But the Hornets also hold their own fate in their hands as well. They can win the region title with a win over Big Red and a win over Milton (6-2, 3-1 Region 7-5A) in those two teams’ season finale on Halloween. Milton has clinched a playoff spot and still has an outside chance to repeat as region champs if they can get a Roswell win over GHS by more than 12 points and then beat Roswell by more than 12 points to force a three-way tie.

Lanier and Seckinger will play for the final playoff spot on Oct. 31 at The Ranch in Sugar Hill.

REGION 8-4A: This wild region will still go down to the final quarter of the final game to decide the final spots. But for now, defending region and state champion North Oconee (8-0, 4-0 Region 8-4A) has clinched a playoff spot. The Titans can clinch the region title this week against Flowery Branch

The Falcons (6-2, 3-1 Region 8-4A) are in second place and have clinched a postseason berth. They just need one win to clinch a top two spot. They finish with winless Cedar Shoals (0-8, 0-4 Region 8-4A). BUT they also can stake a claim for the region title this week when they play host to the Titans at Falcon Field. A win would give them the head-to-head tiebreaker.

As for the rest, three teams are within one game of each other for third place. Eastside (5-4, 3-2 Region 8-4A) sits in third and can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Cedar Shoals on Thursday. The Eagles can still finish second with a win and two losses by Flowery Branch.

Madison County (5-3, 2-2 Region 8-4A), East Forsyth (5-4, 2-3 Region 8-4A), and Walnut Grove (5-3, 1-3 Region 8-4A) are still alive but will need help.

Madison County plays host to Walnut Grove this week in an elimination game.

REGION 8-3A: Everyone will be back in action after taking last week off. Three huge matchups will shape the final week of the season.

No. 2 Jefferson (7-1, 3-0 Region 8-3A) and Oconee County (6-2, 3-0 Region 8-3A) sit tied for the top spot and both have secured playoff berths. Those two teams will meet on Halloween to close out the season, and possibly for the region title, but first the Warriors will have to get past Monroe Area (6-2, 2-1 Region 8-3A) and the Dragons head to Cherokee Bluff (5-3, 1-2 Region 8-3A) this week.

East Hall’s dim playoff hopes are still alive but will need to beat West Hall (2-6, 0-3 Region 8-3A) and Bluff next week to claim the fourth seed.

The Bears will need at least one more win to assure themselves of a playoff spot.

REGION 6-3A: Unlike Week 9, there were no true upsets last week. North Hall moved one win from its second straight region title after whipping Lumpkin County last week. The sixth-ranked Trojans (8-0, 5-0 Region 6-3A) will be huge favorites over Johnson (0-8, 0-5 Region 6-3A) this week.

Pickens (7-1, 4-1 Region 6-3A) and GAC (6-2, 4-1 Region 6-3A) are tied for second and will battle for the No. 2 spot this week in Jasper. Both are one game ahead of Lumpkin County (5-3, 3-2 Region 6-3A) who plays host to arch-rival Dawson County (3-5, 2-3 Region 6-3A).

Lumpkin County can move into third place with a win over the Tigers along with the loser of the GAC-Pickens showdown. The Indians could still finish second with a win this week and a victory over Pickens in the season finale. But they also would need Pickens to beat GAC to make that happen.

REGION 8-A D1: Despite one of the biggest upsets in the state this season two weeks ago when Oglethorpe County stunned No. 7 Rabun County, the Wildcats still hold control of their own destiny.

Win their last two games and the Wildcats will claim the region title. Rabun County (7-1, 3-1 Region 8-A D1) begins that quest this week playing host No. 7 Private Athens Academy (8-1, 5-0 Region 8-A D1). They close out the season next week against Elbert County (4-5, 4-1 Region 8-A D1) who is in second and off this week.

Rabun County, ACAD, and Elbert County all have clinched playoff spots.
