Tony Danza does not recall Valerie Bertinelli shooting her shot with him.
On the Tuesday, Oct. 14 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Danza, 74, and Bertinelli, 65, collaborated with the host for a cooking segment. Together, they were making the Who’s the Boss actor’s “date sauce” — which he notably never made for Bertinelli, the celebrity chef revealed, because he claimed he never found the note she left in his car, containing her number.
“So, this is a sauce that you never made for me — even though I left my phone number in your glove box,” Bertinelli said, wrapping an arm around Danza, who giggled.
“I believe it’s called a date sauce,” host Drew Barrymore added. “Did you ever find Val’s phone number in your glove box?”

“No I did not!” Danza answered promptly, shaking his head. Bertinelli laughed as he added, “I think she’s full of baloney!”
The date sauce in question is made by hand-crushing whole tomatoes — which Danza grew on his New York City windowsill — in a colander, he explained, then combining it with tomato paste, plus sautéed red pepper flakes, garlic and onions.
On the show, Danza combined the sauce with pappardelle pasta, plus side dishes of meatballs and short ribs. But when he actually prepared this sauce for a date, Danza explained, he skipped some of the more complicated steps.

Earlier on the same episode, Bertinelli shared that her plan to woo Danza didn’t pan out.
“He never called me!” Bertinelli said as the crowd gasped. “They never do, by the way,” Barrymore added.
