A new candidate has emerged for the upcoming election season in Hall County.

Local businessman Mark Turner informed AccessWDUN’s Bill Maine through the “Mornings on Maine Street” program Wednesday of his candidacy for the District 1 seat on Hall County’s Board of Commissioners.  He told WDUN, “I am running for District 1 County Commissioner.  If you look around, people are disgusted with the growth and traffic in the area.  It’s my experience, there’s no voice for the community. ”

Turner added, “We’ve outpaced the growth of our resources.  I’m not anti-growth, but I think it should be good growth.  What about parks?  We need to catch up on our fire stations?  We need to address these issues.”

Turner is currently the President and CEO of local business, Select Pest Control Systems of Gainesville and believes public safety departments need to hire more officers and have more resources to care for the county as the current rate of growth continues.

Turner’s announcement means that he is challenging the incumbent for the District 1 commission seat, Kathy Cooper, in 2026. Cooper was first elected in 2014 and has since been re-elected, winning a third term in the 2022 election.
