“A few students and the driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution for further evaluation,” the school district said, adding that all the families of students who were on the bus were “contacted directly.”

“We are grateful for the quick response of emergency personnel and school staff, and we will continue to support the students and families affected,” they added.

Sergeant Justin Ruiz with the Texas Department of Public Safety told KXXV-TV that the bus had been traveling northbound when a white SUV allegedly came into the bus’ lane.

“It is said that there is a possible involved white SUV that the driver of the bus drivers stated may have come into her lane so she swerved to the right a little bit, went into the ditch here, and then rolled over,” Ruiz told the outlet.

DPS said the white SUV didn’t stop after the incident and troopers are working to track down the vehicle. The agency is investigating the incident.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Texas DPS for comment.

DPS cleared the bus from the area, but gashes remain in the dirt and grass that show where the bus rolled over, per KXXV-TV. One nearby Grimes County resident, Scott Kelley, told the outlet that he had been concerned when he saw what happened.

“Well, honestly, I was like, ‘God, I hope everyone’s OK,’ cause it looks major and that’s the last thing you want is to, for someone’s safety or someone to be critically injured or hurt or whatever,” Kelley told the outlet.

“I’m just grateful that no one had gotten major hurt or anything, and that’s the main thing,” he added.
