TOCCOA — Two women were arrested Wednesday night after a traffic stop in Stephens County led to the discovery of multiple illegal narcotics, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducted the stop around 8 p.m. April 15 on Old Liberty Hill Road in reference to a traffic violation. During the stop, deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Gabrielle Martin, 21, of Toccoa, and reported smelling marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search.
Authorities said a search of the vehicle uncovered suspected methamphetamine and a pill commonly associated with oxycodone in a purse belonging to passenger Haley Davidson, 27, of Toccoa. Deputies also reported finding a backpack belonging to Martin that contained suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, suspected marijuana and drug-related objects with residue.
Both women were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Stephens County Jail.
Davidson remains in jail on a $10,000 bond and is charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. She is also being held on a Banks County warrant for probation violation tied to prior drug-related charges.
Martin remains in jail on a $13,000 bond. She is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), two counts of possession and use of drug-related objects, and multiple traffic offenses.
Sheriff Rusty Fulbright said deputies remain focused on addressing illegal drug activity in the county.
“Not every bust is going to be a pound of narcotics, but each bust helps take a little more off our streets and out of the hands of our youth, our family members, our friends,” Fulbright said in a statement. “This is about more than stacking up drugs in our evidence locker — it’s about protecting our community as a whole.”
