TOCCOA, Ga. — A Toccoa man was arrested Monday after investigators said he fired multiple shots during a road rage-related confrontation on Foxglove Road.

Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:15 p.m. May 4 to a report of shots fired in the area. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies first spoke with the 911 caller and then with Skyler Hulett, who claimed another man fired a gun from a vehicle near his residence following a verbal dispute.

Authorities said the evidence contradicted the 23-year-old Hulett’s account.

“After reviewing nearby camera footage and interviewing both males, SCSO investigators were able to dismiss Hulett’s claim that the other individual fired shots and determined that Hulett himself had discharged a firearm,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Hulett and his residence. During the investigation, authorities said they learned the incident began as a road rage encounter on Oak Valley Road.

According to investigators, after Hulett arrived home, the two men became involved in a verbal altercation. Authorities said Hulett retrieved a firearm, fired multiple rounds into the ground and then allegedly pointed the weapon at the other man. A second confrontation occurred when the other individual attempted to leave the area, but no additional shots were fired.

While searching the property, investigators said they recovered multiple shell casings believed to match a rifle found inside Hulett’s truck. After collecting additional evidence from both individuals involved, deputies arrested Hulett and transported him to the Stephens County Detention Center.

Hulett is charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and making false statements. As of May 5, he remained in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
