Joseph Wilton Savage, 50, of Gainesville, remains in the Hall County Jail following his arrest Monday after he fled a traffic stop a week ago, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Patrol deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) initially encountered Savage just before 4:30 p.m. on April 20.
At that time, a deputy observed Savage, who was driving Ford F150, traveling southbound on Athens Highway in the area of Wallace Road. The deputy observed Savage fail to maintain his lane of travel, crossing onto the shoulder of the highway.
The deputy activated the lights and siren on his patrol vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. Savage continued to drive and turned right on Roy Parks Road. Instead of stopping his truck, Savage accelerated to a speed of 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, failing to maintain his lane of travel multiple times. Savage continued to elude the traffic stop, eventually turning onto Talmo Road. When Savage came upon a landscape truck in the road, he stopped briefly, but when the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, Savage fled from the scene. The deputy ended the pursuit.
Because the deputy was able to obtain Savage’s registration information from his vehicle tag, he secured warrants for fleeing and attempting to elude, speeding and failure to maintain lane. Savage was taken into custody at a location on Old Cornelia Highway.
He remains in jail with no bond on a probation warrant.”
