After a long rest, the Nacoochee Grill in Helen has reopened in September 2013 under the administration of Mully, city councilman and long-lasting occupant. The restaurant was Helen’s first to serve something more upscale than the omnipresent schnitzel.

Before , Mully’s Nachoochee Grill was known for its choice of flame broiled fish and steaks presented with Southern sides like collards and heated sweet potatoes. Their housemade nectar balsamic dressing was so great they needed to jug it! They were additionally the first to characteristic wines from neighboring vineyard, Habersham Winery.

The Nacoochee Grill, located in the charming town of Helen, Georgia, has a storied history that reflects the evolution of dining in this picturesque area. Originally reopening its doors in September 2013, the restaurant was brought back to life under the guidance of Greg “Mully” Ash, a dedicated city councilman and long-time resident of Helen. This establishment was notable for being the first in the town to offer a dining experience that was more refined than the traditional fare dominated by schnitzels and other local staples.

Fast forward to March 2026, and the Nacoochee Grill has once again undergone a transformation. The restaurant is now under the ownership of Matthew Boggs, the visionary behind Campfire in Helen, and James Garity. They took the reins following the closure of Mully’s Nacoochee Grill in December 2025. With an ambitious vision, they reopened the space in early 2026, rebranding it as an upscale cloth-napkin steakhouse, aiming to elevate the dining experience and attract both locals and visitors alike.

In its previous incarnation as Mully’s Nacoochee Grill, the restaurant garnered a reputation for its expertly flame-broiled fish and succulent steaks, which were always paired with delightful Southern sides such as collard greens and warm sweet potatoes. One of the standout features of the menu was their signature housemade nectar balsamic dressing, which was so beloved that patrons often requested it by the jugful. Furthermore, this establishment was also a pioneer in showcasing wines from the nearby Habersham Winery, allowing diners to indulge in local flavors that complemented their meals beautifully.

As the Nacoochee Grill continues to evolve under new ownership, it remains a focal point of the community, promising to build on its rich legacy while aiming for new heights in culinary excellence. The future looks bright for this beloved restaurant, as it seeks to redefine the dining landscape in Helen with an inviting ambiance and a menu that reflects both innovation and tradition.
