The forward movement of the Buzzard Mountain Fire in White County has been halted. Fire officials made that announcement at a news conference in Cleveland Monday.

“The fire is currently estimated at approximately 26 acres and is 60% contained,” according to a news release. “The U.S. Forest Service has successfully stopped forward progress of the fire at this time. Crews will remain on scene over the next several days to continue containment efforts and monitor conditions.”

There are currently 30-40 firefighters involved in working the fire. Additional resources from neighboring regions have arrived in support of the crews who have been engaged since the onset of the fire.

At this time, the fire is being actively monitored and no residences are threatened.
