A female inmate found dead Saturday inside the Muscogee County jail has been identified as Xaniya Muse. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan told Now Georgia the 20-year-old inmate was complaining of a stomachache prior to her death but there is no preliminary cause of death yet.
According to jail records Muse was charged by the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office on April 6, 2026, for criminal trespass, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers and giving a false name, address or birthdate to law enforcement officer. Records show she was booked into the jail March 17, 2026, after being arrested by the Columbus Police Department for simple battery and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency investigating the inmate’s death which is standard protocol. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
