You may be hearing reports about the statewide burn ban in Georgia has been lifted. But it does not include the summertime burn ban that went into effect May in Hall and 50+ other counties.
That is an annual mandated prohibition in select counties which is designed to protect air quality and human health during the summer, when the warm, sunny days create conditions for the formation of ozone.
The burn ban which current news stories are referencing was ordered by the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) in response to the south Georgia wildfires. But conditions have now improved.
Both of the biggest fires, burning in Clinch and Brantley counties, were 90% contained as of Thursday. While several counties still have local burn bans in place, the GFC is asking everyone to consider the current dry conditions and fire risk before burning outdoors.
