Hello and welcome to the Week 14 waiver wire watch for defense/special teams!
The Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone and we’ve made it to the month of December. It’s time for you to lock in as we’ve made it to the end of the regular season in most leagues before the kicking off the fantasy football playoffs next week.
We’ll go over some D/ST units that you should consider scooping off the waiver wire ahead of Week 14 and as always, we’ll classify a waiver add as a group that is rostered in 50% of leagues at the max. This week also marks the final set of byes across the league, so pay attention to who will and won’t be available.
Week 14 byes: Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers
Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST (41.6%)
The Jaguars blasted the Titans in a 25-3 win on Sunday and jumped into first place in the AFC South in the process. It was yet another strong defensive effort as the unit racked up 14 fantasy points for the week, recording three sacks, three passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries in the victory. They are one of four defenses that has recorded 20 turnovers so far this season and given how much steam the Colts have lost in recent weeks, I actually like them as a streaming option for this Sunday.
Week 14 matchup: vs. Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m. ET
Miami Dolphins D/ST (12.9%)
The Dolphins held off the Saints for a 21-17 victory this past weekend and the defense did just enough to hold off Tyler Shough and their offense. Four sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery is what the Phins produced in the win and it resulted in a third straight game with at least nine fantasy points. They’re going up against a Jets team offense that has shown a pulse in recent weeks, but I think this matchup favors Miami.
Week 14 matchup: @ New York Jets, 1 p.m. ET
Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST (27.0%)
Tampa Bay’s defense has gotten lit up over the last month and even though it held off Arizona for a 20-17 victory on Sunday, Jacoby Brissett was still able to throw for over 300 yards in the contest. However, the Bucs have a favorable matchup at home against a Saints team that they trashed 23-3 back in Week 8. It was actually their best defensive performance of the season as they forced four turnovers and had five sacks in the victory. Even though the aforementioned Shough has performed well in recent weeks, I think the Bucs can rough up the rookie a little bit.
Week 14 matchup: vs. New Orleans Saints, 1 p.m. ET
