A man was convicted and another was sentenced for their respective rape charges, according to two releases from the District Attorney George Christian of the Mountain Judicial Circuit.
Moises Oswaldo Velasquez, 23, was convicted of two counts two counts of Rape, Incest and Child Molestation on Nov. 6.
According to the release, the crimes occurred between August 2018 and September 2019. The Banks County Grand Jury indicted Velasquez on Aug. 8, 2021.
Velazquez’s sentencing has been set for Nov. 20, 2025. He faces up to life in prison.
Meanwhile, Dennis Garren Orr was convicted of Rape on Oct.30, 2025.
Chief Judge William Oliver sentenced Orr on Nov.12 to 40 years to serve in prison, with the first 25 years not subject to parole. Orr will also be on probation for life, and be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
The two cases appear to be two separate trials with no relation to one another.
