DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – The Dawson County girls flag football team rallied past Ringgold, 19-12, to stay in the hunt for the Area 7 Division 2 championship Thursday at Tiger Stadium.

Dawson County (5-2, 4-1) scored 19 unanswered points to beat Ringgold. The victory positions Dawson County to finish its inaugural season with a share of the title next week.

The visiting Tigers scored on their opening drive, then converted an interception into a second scoring drive, taking a 12-0 lead in the second quarter.

Dawson County got its offense clicking as senior Hope Selzer took a hook-and-ladder play call for a 37-yard score with 50 seconds remaining in the first half.  After a successful PAT, Dawson cut the deficit to 12-7.

Dawson County claimed a 13-12 lead in their opening second-half drive as Lilly Brown connected with Andee Howell for a 38-yard score.

After a Dawson County drive stalled at the Ringgold 5-yard line, Hayden Hand’s interception on the first play from scrimmage set the home Tigers up first and goal at the 3-yard line. Brown rushed the possession in for the score and the 19-12 lead with 6:50 remaining in the game.

Dawson County’s defense thwarted Ringgold’s final attempt of the game to secure the opportunity to play for a postseason position next week.

Dawson County travels to Fannin County to take on both Fannin and Gilmer next week.
