Governor Brian Kemp announced on Thursday that a Hoschton resident and former Weaver Law Firm associate attorney will be the next executive director for the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA).
The appointment of Trey Bennett will be in effect on Sunday.
“Marty, the girls, and I are grateful for the years of dedicated service Trey has given to my administration, and we are proud to congratulate him on this new leadership role,” Kemp said. “We look forward to his continued service as he works to ensure our state’s infrastructure assets meet the needs of hardworking Georgians and job creators.”
Bennett will take over for Hunter Hill, who has been the authority’s executive director since July 1, 2022.
GEFA is the authority that provides loans for public water, wastewater, and solid waste infrastructure. They also manage energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, administer land conservation loans, and manage state-owned fuel storage tanks.
Bennett currently serves as General Counsel and Grants Division Director in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget (OPB).
According to his LinkedIn, he was an associate attorney at Weaver Law Firm from 2018 to 2020.
Kemp’s office says Bennett has over a decade of legal and governmental experience, including drafting and advocating for key measures in the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He holds a J.D. from the University of Georgia and also has prior experience as an assistant district attorney and private litigator in northeast Georgia.
