ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia QB and Rabun County’s Gunner Stockton has been named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.
The Maxwell Football Club announced it on Tuesday. The club also announced that junior ILB CJ Allen has been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
Stockton is one of five players from the Southeastern Conference on the 13-man list. Allen, a native of Barnesville, Ga., is one of seven league players included as Bednarik semifinalists.
Three finalists for each award will be announced on Nov. 27. The winners of the 89th Maxwell Award and the 31st Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.
Stockton has already been named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2025 and to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 10 this season.
Allen is a Butkus Award, Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year and Lott IMPACT Trophy semifinalist in addition to his Bednarik honors.
Stockton has accounted for 22 touchdowns (15 passing, seven rushing) in his first season starting behind center for the Bulldogs. He ranks 14th nationally in Completion Percentage (69 percent) after completing 179 of 258 passes with only a pair of interceptions. Directing an offense that has featured six different starting offensive line units, Stockton has led Georgia to five SEC victories where the Bulldogs trailed either early or late in the game, including wins at No. 15 Tennessee and versus No. 5 Ole Miss.
Allen leads the SEC, averaging 8.3 tackles through nine games. He has piled up 75 stops, including six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, to go with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He has been Georgia’s leading tackler seven times this season and has been a captain four times. Allen posted double-digit tackle totals during a three-game stretch featuring wins over No. 5 Ole Miss, at Auburn, and versus Florida.
The No. 5 Bulldogs (8-1, 6-1 SEC) will play host to No. 10 Texas (7-2, 4-1) on Saturday. ABC will televise the matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium.
