Traffic Shift Starts Wednesday 129 South Cleveland
(9/2/2014) – Georgia DOT announces road changes to take effect tomorrow in Cleveland. Traffic on State Route 11/US 129/South Main Street will be shifted west from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Store to the Dollar General Store. This traffic shift will open up a continuous center turn lane from O’Reilly’s to Hope Drive. North of Hope Drive SR 11 will have not a center turn lane. This shift will allow crews to have more room as the grade of SR 11 is raised.
At the same time, Donald Thurmond Parkway at State Route 11/US 129 will be closed for the grade of the road is raised by 12 feet. The contractor is required to complete the work and reopen the road in 20 days, September 23.
“With such a significant grade change, traffic cannot continue to use the roadway as the work occurs. The detour route will direct traffic up SR 11 to Old Highway75 then south to Donald Thurmond Parkway allowing access to Walmart and to Advance Auto Parts. Thank you for your patience as this work occurs,” explained Harold Mull, Georgia DOT District Construction Engineer.
The contract to build Phase One the Cleveland Bypass in White County was awarded to Sunbelt Structures, Inc. of Tucker. This 1.97 mile long project begins at Hope Drive at US 129/SR 11 and extends northwest to SR 115.
